A short time ago I might have been quite bewildered when asked what social media has to do with science outreach and education. Times have changed and with the advent of Twitter in particular there is a increasingly large presence of scientists and educators using this new social media platform to communicate news, share ideas and bring people with similar interests together.
Each week I hope to post a Twitter or Facebook account which is contributing to the sharing of scientific interest and successfully creating a healthy discussion of science. Tweets may be limited to 140 characters but the wealth of information being shared is significant.
